PVC is incredibly harmful to the environment. During the manufacture process poisonous gases known as "Volatile Organic Compounds" ( V.O.C.s ) are given off into the atmosphere. The PVC itself and the coatings used often contain volatile carcinogenic and reprotoxic fabrics consisting of Phthalates, Phosphates, Formaldahyde and Glycol-ether.

 

When prints are taken down they are often disposed of by dumping in landfill sites. Not only does it take hundreds or even thousands of years for the materials to break down, but in the process the materials contaminate the area around them with the poisonous elements contained within them.
